The 19th Republican Student Olympiad for Programming took place at Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar” on 4th and 5th of May. 21 three-member teams, from nine leading Bulgarian universities, represented the elite among the Bulgarian students-programmers.

First place was attained by one of the Sofia University teams, comprised by Veselin Georgiev, Antony Sredkov and Martin Gogov, with tutors Miloslav Sredkov and professor Krasimir Manev. Sofia University leaded in the official final ranking of all universities as well, leaving decisively behind the rest of the participants. The Olympiad was extremely challenging and after the competition the students commented that the problems had extremely high level.

A goal of the Student Olympiad for Programming is to present an opportunity for the best students from universities, working at the territory of Bulgaria and supporting Informatics disciplines, to contact each other and check in competitive conditions the quality of the preparation and their capacity to deal with difficult programming problems. During the years various Bulgarian universities were hostesses of the prestigious event. On 2008, hostess of mentioned Olympiad will be the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics at the Sofia University.

For a consecutive year Musala Sot sponsored the event. The initiative was supported also by EuroRisk Systems, Microsoft Bulgaria, Register.BG, Tempus 2000 и SIS 45.
