The second round of the programming contest of Musala Soft and PC Magazine was conducted under the patronage of the Bulgarian Association for Computational Linguistics     (áúëãàðñêà âåðñèÿ)

This year, the second round of the private programming contest, organized by Musala Soft and PC Magazine Bulgaria was conducted under the patronage of the Bulgarian Association for Computational Linguistics (BACL). BACL actively participated in the preparation of the problem and provided the awards. The prize for the first place was an MP3 Player, as the first six participants won a software packages “SpeechLab 2.0 Desktop”.

The best performance was of Vasil Popovski, a regular participant in the contest. Vasil is a Technical director in a software company. One of his hobbies, besides taking part in the programming competition, is travelling. He visited more than 25 countries among which several exotic destinations. In addition to the BACL award and the MP3 Player, he received an honorary diploma from Musala Soft and a subscription to PC Magazine.

The second place took Ivaylo Boyadziev, who is a student at the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics at Sofia University. Third in the ranking is Ivan Genov, followed by Boris Daskalov, Ilian Iliev and Ivelina Zaharieva.

The awards were bestowed to the winners on 20th of December at Musala Soft office. Stoyan Mihov – founder and vice president of BACL, Tervel Niagolov - editor-in-chief of PC Magazine Bulgaria and Delyan Lilov - CEO of Musala Soft personally greeted the participants.

“The number of participants at the second round is almost double, compared to the one from the same round in 2005 – an extremely positive indicator for the development of the contest.” – commented the organizers.

The Bulgarian Association for Computational Linguistics is a scientific non-profit organization of people working on problems involving natural language, language technologies and computation. Among the principal aims of the Association are to promote research and education in the field of Natural Language processing and sharing and transferring of data, software and specifications across researchers in different countries as well as to establish distribution facilities for the dissemination of scientific results, publications and information materials.

Now, the third round of the contest is being held as a New Year tournament of the Bulgarian Association of Software Companies (BASSCOM). Solutions of the problem can be uploaded at http://konkurs.musala.com until the 10th of January. As usual, BASSCOM promised generous money awards.
